Frequently asked questions
Why do I keep less than the full rise?
Your rise is taxed at your marginal rate — usually 20% tax plus 8% NI for basic-rate taxpayers — plus any student loan repayment.
What is the 60% tax trap?
Between £100,000 and £125,140 your Personal Allowance is withdrawn, so each extra £1 can cost 60p in Income Tax plus 2p NI.
